SLIME 101
Slime is all about POLYMERS! A polymer (pva glue) is made up of very large chains of molecules. A chemical reaction occurs between the pva glue and the borate ions (borax slime activator) when fully combined SLIME is the new substance formed. Instead of flowing freely as before, the molecules in the mixture have become tangled and create what is known as slime. Slime can then be mixed through with other ingredients to create different sensory experiences. Including colouring, pigments, fragrance oils, soft clays, sprinkles, crunchy add in’s, fimo slices and more!
SLIME originally called GAK or FLUBBER, is a toy that was manufactured by leading retailers Mattel in 1976. Like the name implies, it was designed to be GROSS with a glossy shine and cold slimy feel to it that would ooze all over the place. The product even came sealed in a mini green plastic "trash can".
Slime became even more popular after Nickelodeon, a popular TV Network for kids, started featuring it on their shows. On the TV show "You Can't Do That on Television," if someone said "I don't know," a bucket of green slime would be dumped on them. It was later used on many of their game shows, like "Double Dare" where contestants would compete on an obstacle courses to get their "reward" if they won, which was a huge bucket of slime dropped on their heads. Even at the Nickelodeon Kids choice awards where winning celebrities get slimed on!
Slime TODAY has evolved into a worldwide craze. Not only is slime FUN for people of all ages, slime is used as a great multi sensory tool for stress relief & anxiety/ sensory play and as a fidget toy.
Using 4 of your 5 senses Sight - touch - sound & smell, slimes are a unique sensory experience for everyone. Squishing, squeezing, stretching, crunching, popping between your fingers, slime can be enjoyed for hours and is a fun way to embrace your inner child.
